Just one of many trucks full of bawling unweaned calves leaving Rosslare yesterday. Note the calf at the front is already sick with a lot of discharge from the eyes. 30 hours with no feed is inhumane and a clear breach of the Regulation. Discharge from the eyes can be a sign of respiratory illness like pneumonia or pink eye (highly infectious and can cause blindness) Why is a sick calf being sent on a horrendously long journey? Where is the high welfare Charlie McConalogue ?

Shocking statistics. This huge volume of animals being bred would not be possible without factory farming. Consumption of animal produce must be reduced and intensive farming methods must be banished to history books.

Animals Behind Closed Doors
"More than 100 million farmed animals are slaughtered in Ireland each year; that’s 275,000 every day, 12,000 every hour, three every second."

That's a "mind-boggling statistic" as Gerry puts it in his letter to the Irish Examiner today.

These animals are sentient beings that suffer and feel pain and yet so much cruelty goes unseen within the industry. We need to rectify this and ensure that they have a life worth living.
